         Guru Purnima festival is coming up on Thursday, July 10th this year. It falls on the full moon day of the month of Ashadha. Also known as Vyasa Purnima, this festival is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Maharishi Veda Vyasa.

Veda Vyas is not only the author of the Mahabharata but also a great sage who gave the Bhagavad Gita to the world. That is why he is considered and worshipped as the Adiguru.


This auspicious day is dedicated to teachers, parents, and elders. It is believed that worshipping them brings knowledge, peace, and happiness. Those who do not have a teacher can worship Shiva, Vishnu, Ganesha, Surya, Hanuman, Durga Devi, and Sri Krishna as their spiritual teachers. The scriptures say that worshipping parents as teachers also brings auspiciousness.


Scholars suggest that on this day, donating money, performing meritorious deeds, bathing in the Ganges, and lighting a ghee lamp near a Tulsi plant will yield special results. It is said that students facing obstacles in their studies will get good results by reading the Bhagavad Gita. If this is not possible, devotees believe that serving cows is also fruitful.


It is believed that if those who have Guru Dosha in their horoscope chant the mantra "Om  Brihaspataye Namah" 11, 21, 51 or 108 times on Guru Purnima, they will be freed from planetary defects.


This Guru Purnima festival... is a day that leads to knowledge, gratitude, peace, devotion and the highest goals, so scholars suggest that everyone should celebrate it spiritually.
